THE ALMIGHTY THREE IN ONE (An Article by Christian Henry) ~ 3/13/25

“Who is like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods? who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?” (Exodus 15:11)

“And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.” (Isaiah 6:3)

“The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all.” (II Corinthians 13:14)

Our God is infinite; being boundless or endless in both being and perfection. His essence cannot be wholly grasped or understood by any but Himself, barring divine intervention. He is a pure, invisible spirit without unstable emotions that may dominate and drive the person. He alone has immortality and fully dwells in the light which no one can come near of their own volition. God is immutable and unchanging. He is immense and eternal. The Lord is far beyond man's imagination or understanding, being almighty, powerful, and infinite. He is most holy, wise, free, and absolute; being unmixed with anything.

The Lord works all things according to the counsel of His own unchanging and most righteous will. He is most loving, gracious, merciful, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth; forgiving iniquity and rebellion, which are offences against Him - rewarding those who diligently seek Him and simultaneously is most just and formidable in all Holy matters. God hates all sin and will by no means clear the guilty.

Having all life, glory, goodness, and blessedness, in and of Himself, God is unique and entirely all-sufficient. He needs no creature which He has made, nor does He derive any benefit from created beings. On the contrary, God manifests His glory in them, through them, to them and upon them. He is the only source of all being from Whom, through Whom, and to Whom all things exist and move.

Our Father has completely sovereign dominion over all creatures, to do through them, for them, or to them whatever He pleases. In His sight all things are open and evident as His knowledge is infinite, infallible, and not dependent upon the creature. Therefore, nothing is contingent or uncertain for Him. He is most holy in all His plans and purposes, works, and commands. To Him is due, from angels and men, whatever worship, service, or obedience available to them. We owe this as creatures to the Creator and whatever else He is pleased to require from us.

There are three distinct Subsistences or Persons in this divine and infinite Being: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. All are one in substance, power, and timelessness. All three are entirely God, yet the Godhead is not divided. The Father was neither brought into being by, nor did He issue from any other being. The Son is eternally begotten of the Father. The Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son. All three are without beginning or ending and are therefore only one God; Who is not to be divided in nature and being, for there is no difference between the members of the Godhead.

This doctrine of the Trinity is the foundation of all our communion with God, and our comfortable dependence on Him. If the members of the Godhead familiarly relate to one another, it teaches us that it is God's nature to know and to be known. Thus, this doctrine is the foundation of our seeking the Lord for a personal relationship.
